Welcome to the official site of Out of the Blue.

Do-it-Up Blue in southern Manitoba so we can become a model region for positive mental health.

Out of the Blue is a regional public awareness and education program that aims to inspire and inform students and youth, residents, businesses and agencies in the Southern Health region of Manitoba. We want to get everyone involved in making positive mental health a priority, creating a new voice for mental health and mental illness in our region.

 Our new voice will:

  • Increase awareness and develop broad-based support for positive mental health;
  • Increase awareness of suicide as a problem that is preventable, through a focus on education and advocacy of positive mental health;
  • Reduce the stigma associated with mental illness;
  • Support the development and implementation of community-driven suicide awareness and prevention programs;
  • Promote accurate mental health information;
  • Encourage help seeking behavior by open, direct and honest talk about suicide; and,
  • Spread hope for recovery.

Out of the Blue was developed by the Southern Health-Santé Sud Suicide Prevention Committee with funding from Manitoba Health. The SESPC includes youth, people affected by or concerned about suicide, community agencies, public health and mental health organizations, and faith-based organization; and is chaired by the Southern Health-Santé Sud Mental Health Promotion.

Our New Voice will be heard through these initiatives:

                      School Presentations (February) Mental health awareness/suicide prevention presentations will be delivered in 5 high schools, representing 5 school divisions in 5 different communities across the Southern Health-Santé Sud region. Students will be encouraged to participate in Blue Awareness Activities through volunteerism and curriculum assignment options. Volunteer credits may be awarded through MB Youth Volunteer Opportunities.

                      Blue Awareness Activities (Deadline: April 15, 2015) Participating individuals, schools, businesses, and community groups will develop and carry out Blue Awareness Activities. Activities registered on the website will be promoted by Out of the Blue, and may be eligible to win a Blue Activity Award. E-mail support is available for any questions and concerns that may arise.

                      Blue Carpet Gala & Awards Ceremony (May 7, 2015)
 Fine dining, creatively blue attire, a celebrity host… This annual event will celebrate those people, across our region, who contributed to Out of the Blue program. Awards including cash prizes will be presented during a special Blue Activities ceremony.

Participate – and help Southern Health-Santé Sud become a model region in mental health awareness.

               Everyone will know how to get help, for themselves or others.

                                 No problem is too big.

                        Suicide is never the solution.
